Swallowtail Hawkfish – Cyprinocirrhites polyactis
Overview:
The Swallowtail Hawkfish is a striking and agile reef dweller, featuring a slender body with bold coloration and a distinctive swallowtail fin. Known for its perching behavior and curious nature, it is a lively addition to reef aquariums.
Origin:
Native to the Indo-Pacific region, commonly found around coral reefs and lagoons, where it perches on rocks and corals.
Feeding:
Carnivorous – feeds on small crustaceans, brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, and other meaty foods. Regular feedings of high-quality marine diets are essential.
Tank Mates:
Best kept with peaceful to semi-aggressive reef fish. Avoid overly aggressive or very small fish that could be targeted as prey.
Aggression:
Semi-aggressive – will defend its perching territory but generally coexists well with compatible tank mates.
Experience Level:
Intermediate – requires a well-established reef tank with plenty of live rock and hiding spots.
