Tripod Filefish – Tripodichthys sp.
Overview:
The Tripod Filefish is a distinctive and elegant marine species, known for its long, filamentous pelvic fins that give it a tripod-like appearance when resting. Its slender, laterally compressed body and subtle coloration make it a captivating addition to specialized reef aquariums.
Origin:
Native to the Indo-Pacific region, typically found near sandy flats, coral reefs, and seagrass beds.
Feeding:
Omnivorous – feeds on small invertebrates, algae, and prepared marine foods. In captivity, offer a diet including spirulina, mysis shrimp, marine algae, and high-quality pellets.
Tank Mates:
Best kept with peaceful reef fish. Avoid aggressive species that may harass or outcompete the Tripod Filefish.
Aggression:
Generally peaceful – primarily a calm and slow-moving species, but may nibble on soft corals or small invertebrates.
Experience Level:
Intermediate – requires a well-established marine aquarium with stable water parameters and proper feeding routines.
