Two Stripe Cory (Corydoras bifasciatus)

Overview

The Two Stripe Cory is a distinctive and uncommon Corydoras species named for its bold twin lateral stripes that run along the length of the body. Attractive, peaceful, and full of character, this species is an excellent choice for Cory enthusiasts and community aquarium keepers.

Origin

Native to Brazil, typically found in slow-moving tributaries of the Amazon basin with sandy bottoms and abundant leaf debris.

Feeding

An easy, undemanding omnivore. It thrives on:

• Sinking catfish wafers and Cory pellets

• Frozen foods like bloodworms, brine shrimp, and daphnia

• High-quality micro sinking pellets

• Occasional live foods for enrichment and conditioning

Note: Offer sinking foods, as this is a bottom-dwelling forager.

Tank Mates

Great for peaceful communities:

• Tetras, rasboras, pencilfish

• Small rainbowfish

• Dwarf cichlids (Apistogramma, rams)

• Other Corydoras species

• Peaceful loaches

Avoid: Large or aggressive fish that may outcompete or harass them.

Aggression

Extremely peaceful. Like all Corydoras, they are schooling fish and should be kept in groups of 6 or more to feel secure and display natural behaviors.

Experience Level

Beginner to intermediate. Hardy and adaptable when kept in stable, clean conditions with a soft substrate.

Water Parameters

• Temperature: 72–79°F (22–26°C)

• pH: 6.0–7.5

• Hardness: 2–12 dGH

• Notes: Provide a fine sand substrate to protect their sensitive barbels. Add driftwood, botanicals, and plants to create shaded, natural hiding areas.
