Yellow Antenna Rabbit Snail (Tylomelania sp.)

Overview:
The Yellow Antenna Rabbit Snail is a fascinating freshwater snail known for its dark spiral shell and striking yellow antennae that contrast beautifully with its body. Its distinctive rabbit-like face, long tentacles, and slow, graceful movements make it a unique and eye-catching addition to planted and community aquariums.

Origin:
Native to Sulawesi, Indonesia, Tylomelania species inhabit warm freshwater lakes and rivers with sandy or rocky substrates.

Feeding:
Omnivorous scavenger. Feeds on algae, biofilm, detritus, and leftover fish food. Supplement with algae wafers, sinking pellets, and blanched vegetables such as zucchini, cucumber, or spinach for a balanced diet.

Tank / Setup Requirements:

• Minimum tank size: 40 litres (10 gallons)

• Soft sand substrate recommended to support natural burrowing behaviour

• Provide rocks, driftwood, and surfaces for grazing

• Stable water conditions with gentle to moderate filtration

Tank Mates:
Suitable for peaceful community aquariums with non-aggressive fish and invertebrates. Avoid snail-eating species such as puffers or large loaches.

Behaviour:
Peaceful and slow-moving. Spends most of its time grazing on algae and biofilm or exploring the aquarium. Rabbit snails are livebearers and produce a small number of well-developed young rather than laying eggs.

Experience Level:
Beginner to intermediate. Hardy when kept in stable water conditions with sufficient calcium for healthy shell development.

• Temperature: 24–30°C (75–86°F)

• pH: 7.0–8.5

• Water Type: Freshwater

• Hardness: Moderate to hard water preferred for shell health.
