What are Betta Choice Lotus Pods?

Lotus Pods are just one of many botanicals harvested and packaged by industry experts Betta Choice. Lotus Pods are seed heads from the Lotus Plant. They have several small holes that offer fantastic hiding spots for small fish and shrimps. Like other botanicals, they also have anti-microbial properties and, as they break down, will release natural tanning agents into your aquarium.

Lotus Pods are particularly popular amongst aquarists that want to turn their aquariums into a blackwater paradise. As well as turning your water a subtle shade of brown, Lotus Pods also serve as fantastic focal points in a blackwater aquarium, drawing the eye just like a highly textured piece of Dragon Stone or Seiryu Rock would do in a traditionally aquascaped aquarium.

How do I use Lotus Pods in an aquarium?

Prior to placing Lotus Pods in your aquarium, it’s a good idea to boil them in fresh water. This will remove any lingering bacteria and waterlog them, increasing the chances that they’ll sink when you finally add them to your aquarium.

After boiling your Lotus Pods, strain them and then add them to your aquarium. If pre-boiled, or left for a day or two, the Lotus Pods will sink and start to release humins and tanning agents. Sometimes you’ll need to squeeze excess air out of your Lotus Pods to make them properly sink.

As natural products, Lotus Pods won’t last forever and after three to five weeks they will start to break down and lose their effectiveness. It’s recommended that you replace your Lotus Pods once they start to break down. This pack contains three Lotus Pods of varying sizes.
