Blue Finger Starfish (Linckia laevigata)
Overview:
The Blue Finger Starfish is one of the most iconic reef-safe starfish, featuring striking bright blue arms that add vibrant color to marine aquariums. Hardy and peaceful, it is a popular choice for both display and functional algae grazing.
Origin:
Native to the Indo-Pacific, commonly found on coral reefs and sandy substrates.
Feeding:
Primarily feeds on biofilm, detritus, and microalgae. May benefit from supplemental feeding with finely chopped seafood or algae-based diets in established tanks with limited natural food sources.
Tank Mates:
Reef-safe and compatible with fish, corals, and most invertebrates. Avoid housing with predatory fish that may nip at starfish arms.
Aggression:
Completely peaceful.
Experience Level:
Intermediate. Requires a mature aquarium with stable water parameters and plenty of live rock or substrate for grazing. Sensitive to sudden changes in water chemistry.
