Blue Stripe Grouper – Cephalopholis formosa
Overview:
The Blue Stripe Grouper, also known as the Formosa Coral Grouper, is a striking predatory fish featuring a vibrant red-orange body accented with bold, horizontal electric-blue stripes. Its vivid coloration and graceful movements make it a stunning centerpiece for large marine aquariums.
Origin:
Native to the Indo-Pacific, ranging from the Red Sea and East Africa to the Western Pacific, commonly inhabiting coral reefs and rocky habitats.
Feeding:
Carnivorous – thrives on meaty foods such as shrimp, squid, small fish, and other protein-rich marine preparations. A varied diet maintains its bright coloration and health.
Tank Mates:
Best kept with large, robust tank mates. Smaller fish and invertebrates may be eaten.
Aggression:
Territorial and predatory – requires ample space and hiding areas to establish territory and reduce stress.
Experience Level:
Advanced aquarists – needs a mature, well-filtered aquarium with stable water parameters and experienced handling of predatory species.
