Caribbean Green Moray Eel – Gymnothorax funebris
Overview:
The Caribbean Green Moray Eel is a large, powerful marine predator known for its elongated greenish body and formidable presence. Its striking appearance and secretive behavior make it a captivating centerpiece for large aquariums.
Origin:
Native to the Western Atlantic and Caribbean, commonly found in coral reefs and rocky crevices from Florida to Brazil.
Feeding:
Carnivorous – feeds on small fish, crustaceans, and other meaty marine foods. In captivity, provide shrimp, squid, clams, and other frozen or live preparations.
Tank Mates:
Best kept with large, robust species. Avoid small fish or invertebrates, which may be treated as prey. Suitable for species-specific tanks or carefully selected community setups.
Aggression:
Predatory – will hunt smaller tank mates, semi-aggressive with other large fish.
Experience Level:
Advanced – requires a well-established aquarium with secure rockwork, hiding spots, and plenty of swimming space.
