Fiji Melanotus Butterfly Fish – Chaetodon melannotus
Overview:
The Fiji Melanotus Butterfly Fish is a striking reef species, recognized by its silver body, bold black saddle across the back, and yellow accents on the tail and fins. Its unique patterning and graceful swimming make it an attractive addition to large marine aquariums.
Origin:
Found in the Indo-Pacific region, particularly around Fiji, Indonesia, and the Philippines.
Feeding:
Omnivorous — feeds on frozen or live mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, finely chopped seafood, and high-quality marine pellets, and may graze on algae.
Tank Mates:
Best suited for peaceful to semi-aggressive community fish. Avoid housing with highly aggressive species or similar butterflyfish.
Aggression:
Generally peaceful, though can become territorial if kept in smaller tanks.
Experience Level:
Best kept by intermediate to advanced aquarists, due to specialized feeding needs and sensitivity to water quality.
