Overview:
The King Kong Yellow Tiger Parrot Fish is a striking hybrid cichlid featuring a golden-yellow base color adorned with bold, dark vertical tiger-like stripes. Created by crossing the Midas Cichlid (Amphilophus citrinellus) with Vieja melanurus, this variety combines the unique rounded body and personable nature of parrot cichlids with the strong patterning and robust build of Vieja species.

Origin:
A fully captive-bred hybrid developed for the ornamental fish trade. Parent species originate from Central America, where they inhabit lakes and slow-moving river systems.

Feeding:
Omnivorous. Will eagerly accept high-quality cichlid pellets as a staple, supplemented with frozen or live foods such as krill, bloodworms, and brine shrimp. Include vegetable matter like spirulina flakes, blanched spinach, or peas to maintain bright coloration and digestive health.

Tank Mates:
Semi-aggressive and best housed with other robust cichlids, large catfish, or armored plecos. Avoid small or timid fish. Can coexist with other parrot cichlids if kept in a large, well-decorated tank with multiple territories.

Water Parameters:

• Temperature: 76–82°F (24–28°C)

• pH: 6.8–7.8

• Hardness: Medium to hard water

• Minimum Tank Size: 55+ gallons for a single; larger for mixed setups

• Provide rocks, caves, and open swimming space

Behavior & Personality:

• Highly intelligent and interactive—will often recognize and follow keepers

• Moderate aggression, especially during spawning attempts

• May form pairs, though like many parrot hybrids, fertility can be reduced

Special Notes:

• Hybrid variety with unique color and pattern rarely seen in wild cichlids

• Long-lived, often reaching 10–15 years with proper care

• Avoid overfeeding to prevent obesity

• Color intensity is enhanced by a carotenoid-rich diet
