Skeletor Eel – Echidna xanthospilos
Overview:
The Skeletor Eel is a striking moray eel species, named for its distinctive skeletal-like pattern of dark body markings with contrasting lighter spots. Its elongated body and intricate coloration make it an eye-catching addition to large marine aquariums.
Origin:
Native to the Indo-Pacific region, commonly found around coral reefs, rocky crevices, and lagoons across Indonesia, the Philippines, and Papua New Guinea.
Feeding:
Carnivorous – feeds on small fish, crustaceans, and marine invertebrates. In captivity, offer meaty foods such as shrimp, squid, clams, and frozen marine preparations.
Tank Mates:
Suitable for larger, non-aggressive species. Avoid small fish or invertebrates that may be seen as prey. Best kept in species-specific or carefully planned community tanks.
Aggression:
Semi-aggressive/predatory – generally peaceful with larger tank mates but will hunt smaller animals.
Experience Level:
Advanced – requires a well-established aquarium with plenty of hiding spots and secure rockwork to mimic natural reef crevices.
