Yellow Eye Tang – Ctenochaetus strigosus

Overview:
The Yellow Eye Tang is a vibrant and peaceful marine herbivore, easily recognized by its deep brown to black body, bright yellow eyes, and striking yellow tail. Its active grazing and reef-safe nature make it a popular choice for maintaining algae control in reef aquariums.

Origin:
Native to the Central Pacific, predominantly around Hawaiian reefs, where it inhabits lagoons and outer reef slopes.

Feeding:
Primarily herbivorous – thrives on marine algae, seaweed, and spirulina-based foods, supplemented with high-quality herbivore pellets or flakes to support optimal growth, health, and coloration.

Tank Mates:
Ideal for peaceful community tanks. Can be housed with other tangs if the aquarium is sufficiently large to minimize territorial behavior.

Aggression:
Mildly territorial – may defend its grazing area, but generally peaceful with other non-aggressive species.

Experience Level:
Intermediate aquarists – requires a mature, stable aquarium with ample swimming space and a steady supply of algae-based foods.

Water Parameters:

• Temperature: 74–80°F (23–27°C)

• pH: 8.1–8.4

• Salinity: 1.020–1.025

• Minimum Tank Size: 100+ gallons
