Yellow Tang – Zebrasoma flavescens

Overview:
The Yellow Tang is one of the most iconic and recognizable saltwater fish, prized for its brilliant, all-yellow body and active swimming behavior. Hardy, adaptable, and reef-safe, it remains a favorite among both beginner and advanced aquarists.

Origin:
Native to the Hawaiian Islands and parts of the Central Pacific Ocean, where it inhabits shallow reefs and lagoons.

Feeding:
Primarily herbivorous, grazing on algae. In captivity, offer a diet rich in nori, spirulina, algae-based pellets, and occasional frozen foods like mysis shrimp.

Tank Mates:
Generally peaceful with most community fish, though may show territorial behavior toward other tangs, especially those of similar shape. Best kept singly in medium to large aquariums.

Aggression:
Semi-aggressive – can be territorial with other surgeonfish but is otherwise a calm and active addition to the reef.

Experience Level:
Beginner-friendly – hardy, disease-resistant, and suitable for a wide range of aquariums, provided there is adequate swimming space and algae availability.

Water Parameters:

• Temperature: 74–80°F (23–27°C)

• pH: 8.1–8.4

• Salinity: 1.020–1.025

• Minimum Tank Size: 75+ gallons
