Description:
Apistogramma Gephyra is a stunning dwarf cichlid species highly regarded for its vivid colours and expressive personality. Males are particularly vibrant, showcasing brilliant hues across their body and fins, while females, although less colourful, remain attractive and animated.
This species thrives in aquariums that closely replicate its natural environment. A soft sandy substrate with plenty of hiding spots such as clay pots, driftwood, and rock formations provides comfort and security. While they do well in a planted setup, sufficient open swimming space is also necessary.
Although generally peaceful, territorial behaviour tends to increase during breeding. To reduce aggression, ensure the tank is spacious and well-structured. Avoid keeping them with small or delicate invertebrates such as dwarf shrimp, which may be harassed. In larger aquariums, robust shrimp and snails may be possible companions. If breeding is intended, it is best to limit or exclude other species entirely.
Feeding:
Feeding Apistogramma Gephyra is uncomplicated, as they are not fussy eaters. They readily accept a range of high-quality dry, frozen, and live meaty foods such as daphnia, brine shrimp, and bloodworms. A diverse and well-balanced diet is essential for supporting their health, vitality, and brilliant colouration.
