Description:
Apistogramma Trifasciata, known for its distinct triple stripe and electric blue sheen, is a beautifully coloured dwarf cichlid with plenty of personality. Males are especially eye-catching with extended dorsal fins and vibrant hues, while females remain attractively yellow with clear black markings.
These cichlids thrive in tanks that replicate their native South American habitat. A sandy substrate, leaf litter, and numerous hiding spots like driftwood, rocks, or clay pots are essential. Although suited to planted aquariums, they require enough open space to establish territories and move freely.
While generally peaceful, this species can become territorial during breeding, especially males. It’s advisable to avoid housing them with small, delicate invertebrates such as dwarf shrimp. Larger shrimp or snails may be suitable companions in spacious tanks. For successful breeding, keep tank mates to a minimum or use a species-dedicated aquarium.
Feeding:
Feeding Apistogramma Trifasciata is straightforward. They readily accept a mix of high-quality foods, including micro pellets, frozen daphnia, brine shrimp, and live bloodworms. A varied diet will help maintain vibrant colouration and excellent overall health.
