Description:
With their bold markings and dynamic movement, Peacock Bass are among the most sought-after large predatory cichlids in the aquarium hobby. These fish are highly active and display striking colouration, particularly as they mature. Due to their eventual size and aggressive predatory instincts, Peacock Bass are best suited to very large aquariums and should only be kept by experienced aquarists.
This species is a powerful predator and will consume any tank mates small enough to fit in its mouth. As such, they are best housed either as a species-only group or with other large, robust cichlids of similar size. While they can be kept in small groups, territorial disputes and dominance behaviour may occur as they reach adulthood.
Feeding:
Peacock Bass are carnivorous and naturally feed on live prey. Feeder fish will likely be required, especially in the early stages. However, with training, they can often be weaned onto frozen foods such as prawns or fish fillets and even high-quality carnivore pellets. Offering a varied diet will help promote colour, growth, and overall health.
