Detailed Description
The Deep Water Haplochromis Cichlid (Haplochromis sp. "Deep Water") is a majestic and less common Hap from Lake Malawi, known for its streamlined body and striking metallic coloration—often electric blue, steel grey, or violet depending on the variant and mood.
These cichlids naturally inhabit deeper, calmer zones of the lake where light is filtered and water is clearer. As such, they thrive in spacious aquariums with dim lighting, soft substrates, and scattered rockwork or caves.
Males tend to be more vibrant than females and can show territorial behavior during spawning. It is recommended to keep one male with multiple females in a harem-style setup to reduce aggression.
A nutritious, varied diet of protein-rich pellets, spirulina, and occasional frozen foods like brine shrimp or mysis will help enhance their color and longevity.
The Deep Water Hap is a peaceful yet show-stopping fish that brings elegance and a touch of rarity to any African cichlid tank, especially when displayed under subdued lighting that brings out its shimmering hues.
