Description:
The Fire and Ice Snakehead, currently referred to as Channa "Berasal Dari", is an eye-catching dwarf snakehead species that remains undescribed but has earned popularity due to its striking colouration and fiery personality. Despite its smaller size, it is notably more territorial and aggressive than many other dwarf Channa.
In the wild, this species is believed to be largely solitary outside of the breeding season, with individuals occupying complex and secluded habitats that naturally reduce encounters. This nature makes them best suited to species-specific setups or very carefully chosen tankmates.
Behaviour and Aquarium Requirements:
Like all snakeheads, the Fire and Ice variant has an accessory respiratory organ allowing it to breathe air. As a result, a tightly secured tank lid is essential to prevent escape, particularly during feeding or exploration.
Given their aggression and predatory nature, these snakeheads should be housed in a species-only aquarium or with very large and robust fish such as gars, large catfish, or plecos. Avoid keeping with smaller or slow-moving fish that may become prey.
Feeding:
In the wild, Channa sp. "Fire & Ice" consumes live fish, amphibians, crustaceans, and insects. In captivity, they require a protein-rich diet including live feeder fish, frogs, crickets, earthworms, and occasionally frozen or prepared foods. Variety ensures proper nutrition and vibrant colouration.
