Filter media can be placed in a removable stack of media baskets at the heart of the Fluval FX External Filter to offer multistage filtration. The baskets are precision-engineered to eliminate water by-pass, making filtration more efficient. Only foam filter blocks are included, however, you can buy additional FX media. Keep your FX in perfect working order with replacement filter foam, bio foam, carbon filter foam, water polishing pads and pre-filter media.

The filter media baskets in the Fluval FX External Filter can hold several layers of media and can be stacked in the precise combination of layers that will work best for your aquarium. This is what separates the Fluval FX External Filters from other aquarium external filters as it allows you to tailor filter circulation to your fish tank. Each basket is also lined with a foam insert for effective mechanical pre-filtering. Instant-release T-handles let you lift and separate the baskets quickly and easily, making routine maintenance simpler.

What is Smart Pump Technology?

The Fluval FX aquarium filters feature Smart Pump Technology, which provides optimal filter performance. This advanced technological feature employs an electronic circuit board that continually monitors the pump. Impeller speed and force are constantly measured to ensure powerful output, maximum filtration volume and energy efficiency. The Smart Pump Technology also manages the filter's self-starting feature and evacuates air that may enter or build up within the filtration system. On a 12-hour cycle, the pump will pause and allow trapped air to escape, ensuring the best filtration efficiency at all times.
