Detailed Description
The Golden Emperor Snakehead (Channa auroflammea) is a rare and highly sought-after freshwater predator known for its brilliant golden-yellow body tones accented with orange and deep black markings. A relatively new species in the aquarium trade, it has quickly gained a reputation for both its beauty and bold behavior.
This species is native to the Mekong River system and prefers well-oxygenated, slightly acidic to neutral waters with plenty of cover such as driftwood, plants, or caves. Like most snakeheads, it is an air-breather and requires a tightly fitting lid to prevent escape.
The Golden Emperor Snakehead is a strong predator and shows territorial aggression, especially as it matures. It is best housed alone or with very carefully chosen tankmates in a large aquarium with excellent filtration and regular water maintenance.
Its diet should consist of meaty foods including live/frozen fish, shrimp, worms, and high-quality carnivore pellets. This species thrives on variety and a clean, stable environment.
With its regal appearance and commanding presence, the Channa auroflammea is ideal for experienced aquarists seeking a rare showpiece predator that combines beauty, power, and intelligence.
