Description

Grant’s Peacock Cichlid is one of the most well-known and widely kept species of Aulonocara, admired for its vivid coloration, manageable size, and fascinating behavior. Native to Lake Malawi, Aulonocara stuartgranti comes in various regional color morphs, including vibrant blues, oranges, and yellows.

Males of this species are exceptionally colorful and develop elongated fins as they mature. Females are less colorful but play an essential role in the social and breeding dynamics of the group. These fish thrive in hard, alkaline water conditions and should be housed in a tank with plenty of rocks, hiding places, and open swimming space.

Though relatively peaceful compared to Mbuna cichlids, males can be territorial, especially in breeding situations. It’s recommended to keep one male with multiple females or ensure ample space and visual barriers if multiple males are housed together.
