Description:

The Royal Intermedia Peacock Bass is a striking and powerful predator, native to the Orinoco and Casiquiare river systems in Colombia and Venezuela. Some populations, such as those from the Rio Caquetá, may represent a distinct subspecies due to their unique morphology and colouration.

Like all members of the Cichla genus, this fish is a voracious piscivore and is best suited to experienced aquarists. Newly imported specimens usually prefer live foods but can gradually be weaned onto frozen and prepared diets. Fast-growing and potentially aggressive, they should be housed with similarly sized, robust tank mates—ideally in large aquaria with plenty of swimming space.

Feeding:

The Royal Intermedia Peacock Bass is a carnivorous predator that requires a diet of live feeder fish initially. Once acclimatised, most individuals can be trained to accept frozen foods and high-quality carnivore pellets. Consistent variety and high protein intake are key to maintaining their health, energy levels, and growth.
