Help and advice on shopping for: Aquarium Air Pumps and Accessories

Give your fish a breath of fresh air

Fish tanks use air pumps to help increase the amount of oxygen in the water, helping to keep the fish and plants inside healthy while maintaining water quality. Our range of air pumps and accessories features loads of brilliant products from the best brands in the business, including Interpet, Aqua One and Eheim.

What are air pumps and accessories?

Air pumps and accessories are used to aerate the water within an aquarium. They do this by taking in air from outside of the tank and bubbling it up through the water. Some also aim to disrupt the water’s surface, forcing it to mix with the air above it.

Why should I buy air pumps and accessories?

Like us, fish need air to breathe, however, fish take in air through water removing the air and expelling the water until it has no air left in it. It’s important to keep topping up the air in the water, or your fish will start to congregate at the water’s surface, gasping for air, which can cause stress. Air pumps and accessories can also be used to power certain aquarium ornaments with the stream of bubbles they produce.

What are the main types of air pumps and accessories?

We sell three main types of air pumps and accessories; air pumps, aquarium airlines & accessories and aquarium air stones. Air pumps are the pieces of hardware that take air from outside of the tank and pump it into your aquarium. Aquarium airlines & accessories are the pieces of tubing that run from the air pump into the aquarium. Aquarium air stones are lumps of porous solids that attach to the end of an airline to create a more effective diffusion pattern.

What should I look for?

When buying air pumps and accessories the key is planning, work out where the air pump will sit and ensure that it can both plug into your mains power supply and has enough airline to reach your tank. With careful planning, you are sure to get incredible aerating results.
