Aquarium light reflectors help and advice

Get the best performance from your fluorescent lighting

A reflector helps you make the most of the light within your aquarium. It reflects light from the bulb back into the tank to make sure none of it is wasted. Angled to direct the light in the right direction, a reflector is a great addition to your aquarium set-up. We sell a range of light reflectors from top brands like Arcadia and Juwel.

What are aquarium light reflectors?

Aquarium light reflectors are pieces of highly reflective metal that are angled around a fluorescent aquarium bulb to redirect the light it produces into the tank. This is because most of the light created by a fluorescent bulb will shine into the canopy of the fish tank instead of the tank itself and so needs to be redirected.

Why should I buy aquarium light reflectors?

If you have an aquarium with a fluorescent light and you aren't using a reflector you are wasting energy and money illuminating the canopy of your tank. With a reflector, you'll make use of all the light being produced by your bulb and enjoy a much brighter tank where you'll be able to see your fish better and your aquatic plants will thrive.

What are the main types of aquarium light reflectors?

While there aren't different types of aquarium reflectors, different makes offer slightly different finishes or angles. You may find it beneficial to swap between the brands over time and find the finish that looks best in your tank.

What should I look for?

All reflectors come in different sizes, often designed to match a specific T5 or T8 fluorescent bulb. Ensure that the reflector you buy is either designed specifically for your bulb or at least the right size to completely cover the rear of your bulb.
