What are aquarium filters?

An aquarium filter is essential to keep your tank running smoothly, whether it's a tropical or a freshwater setup. The purpose of a filter is to remove excess food, decaying matter, dangerous chemicals and fish waste products from the water.

Do I need an aquarium filter?

Filters reduce the number of water changes and the amount of maintenance needed as you’ll have a cleaner tank for longer. If waste and debris are not removed, not only will your tank look dirty, there can also be a build-up of toxins that can be harmful to your aquarium inhabitants.

What are the main types of fish tank filters?

Our filter range is split into three main subcategories: Internal Filters And Accessories, External Filters And Accessories, and Surface Skimmers.

Internal filters are designed to sit inside your aquarium, continuously filtering and helping to maintain clean and healthy water. External filters are positioned outside the aquarium and use tubing to draw water into the filter before returning it to the tank. Finally, surface skimmers remove debris and other unwanted material from the surface of the water, helping to keep your aquarium clean.
