Reverse Osmosis (RO) is a process where dissolved inorganic solids are removed from water. This is achieved when water is pushed through a semi permeable membrane. The water is able to pass through it while leaving the impurities and contaminates behind and leaving cleaner water that's safe for your tank.

The pure water is then fit for an aquarium, having all the harmful chemicals and bacteria removed, but don't forget to add salt if it's a marine tank!
